Abstract

Communication is the key to a relationship in the family. Where parents need to establish good and smooth communication with their children, where parents can position themselves as friends who can understand their children's feelings and know what their children want. This study involved 65 participants who were in emerging adulthood. The research design used is qualitative which is done by survey using an open ended questionnaire. The analysis technique used in this study is thematic analysis. The results obtained, many children prefer to be close to their mothers. There are several reasons for children to choose closeness to parents, namely the existence of close figures, frequency of contact / meetings, listening / responsiveness, self-disclosure, two-way communication, equality, mutual understanding and humor. Communication between parents and children also has challenges, namely situations, ego, differences of opinion, lack of openness, lack of understanding, and lack of trust. Although communication is the key to a relationship, especially a family, it turns out that there are still many children who feel unsatisfied with the communication established with their parents, giving rise to several conditions that can be a picture of ideal communication for children.
